I have been researching new heads for my 78 L82. I want to keep the stock aluminum valve covers and the cold air induction that comes stock with the L82.

Am I missing something? Vortec heads require a Vortec intake and none will fit under the hood unless you use a drop type air cleaner with low profile filter.
Other heads like AFR 180's should have a high performance intake and every one of them I see clearly states they will not fit under a corvette hood. Maybe they will with a different air cleaner?
As I understand it, the stock aluminum intake for the L82 will bolt to the AFR 180 but has less air flow and smaler ports leading to a loss of velocity. Is that correct? If I use the stck intake, am I starving the afr 180's to the point of negating their increased performance?
My 624 heads need to be rebuilt or replaced. I would prefer to keep the stock cold air induction with new heads.
