Radio knob repair on a 73

See the attached picture. There are numerous cracks in the white plastic that holds the metal thing that goes on the volume shaft. Theses cracks won't allow the **** to grab the shaft as they open up when the **** is turned.
I want to keep it stock. so I will attempt a repair. I plan on opening them up slightly, putting in super glue, then clamping it until dry. Any other ideas?
