[car tech] Sonic Front End Links Question

My wife's 2012 Sonic has gone through a few replacements of the front end links (both sides included) due to clunking noise and it looks like the noise is coming back (once again).

My question was as to whether there is any truth to what I was told by the dealer that if you don't replace them when they are noisy it puts additional strain on the suspension and it will cause other parts to break?
