Sales Tax out of state

If you purchase a corvette from a dealer that is not in your state and pick up the car in that other state how is sales tax handled? I talked with a dealer who said I paid sales tax for the dealer state. In reading the sales tax rules for my state of Washington, it says I also owe tax for washington state, double tax of first california and then washington.

How have other people handled this in the past?
