From "San Diego Police Shooting: One Officer Killed, One Rushed to Surgery"

Two San Diego police officers were shot, one fatally, during a traffic stop late Thursday, officials said. Authorities said one person was in custody, but told residents to stay indoors while they continued to search for other potential suspects. The shooting happened at around 11 p.m. local time (2 a.m. ET Friday) in the Southcrest neighborhood, San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman said. The officers had just pulled over a car, when immediately after, they called for emergency cover, Zimmerman said. One of the officers died at the hospital after suffering multiple gunshot wounds and the other cop who was shot in the upper torso was rushed to surgery. The police department tweeted that he is "expected to survive." The suspect, described as an Hispanic male, was caught near the scene of the shooting and was taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound, police said.
